A big week end began by a delivery of a curd knife at the Laiterie Charlevoix. While here we got a piece of Hercule and 1608 cheese that are both really good.

Then the welding of Cyrille's cargo bike began.

Main frame done, fork almost done. These are not the real wheels, they are for checking purpose.

Everything went well except for a bad burn on my left hand. What is left to weld are the side loaders, the rear and front rack and the permanent BOB trailer hitch. Incidentally, the side loaders and both racks were bended outside, by night, with a headlamp while lightnings crashed around...I did'nt feel really good playing wiht 10 foot long metal pipes.

Essai / Test

Since I still miss a few tubes for Cyrille's bike, I took some time to ride with my girlfriend on the week-end.

I'm testing a few things on my new single speed:

  • An hyper-sloping configuration, to see if we can get a little more vertical compliance; so far it's been good.
  • 22.2mm round taper chainstays, to make sure there is no contact with the components and get a little more lateral stiffness; that works on paper and in real life.
  • A Jeff Jones handlebar, becausse it seems right; wow, I'm impressed, I got accustomed realy quick and the hands are at a more natural angle with the arms than on a conventional bar.
The tests were done on l'Isle-aux-Coudres on very mixed trails. However, most of the time we are on private land so, we have to stay furtive. And I don't really take pictures while I ride because, well, I prefer to ride.

Bonne cause / Good cause

I've got that email from Noah, painter at Velocolor in Toronto that have done a project with Pinarello and Mike Barry from team Sky. The frame is for sale for a good cause : Right to play. So, if you are after a carbon road bike, this is the right time to help other human beings.

Customers, Family, Friends,
Some of you may already know but for those that don't I wanted to send around some information about a special project I've been working on.
It started out as a conversation between me and my life long friend and professional cyclist Michael Barry.
Soon we had a donated bike frame from Pinarello, one of his Team Sky sponsors, and a plan to paint the frame, sell it and donate the proceeds to charity.
Michael had worked with Right to Play in the past and we thought this was a fitting place to focus our attention.

As I am trying to keep it short I will do my best to stick to the details.
The Pinarello frame set is on ebay charity auction until the 15th of July and can be found here:
http://is.gd/pinballpinarello

If you want to check it out in person, Blacksmith Cycles  on Queen at Dovercourt is generously giving the Pinarello space to hang out until the end of the auction.
Thanks also to Walter Lai for the beautiful photographs of the frame set.  Hopefully we'll have a chance to see more of his bicycle photographs in the near future.

Finally, I have been documenting the process of the project at one of my favourite e-places, the Velocipede Salon.  It's a bike discussion forum and starting halfway down this page you will find lots of info and pictures on this bike though you will have to join to see them.
I encourage this as there are lots of people with many years of experience and knowledge in hand building, painting and everything else you can think of bicycle related.
Otherwise you can see the process photos on my flickr page.

Thanks for your time, happy looking and bidding.
Ride your bikes,
noah
